The Dialogues, Volume 2

This is Volume 2 of Benjamin Jowett's translation of the Dialogues of Plato and includes: Meno; Euthyphro; Apology; Crito; Phaedo; and, Gorgias. It also includes as Appendices, dialogues whose authenticity is disputed: Lesser Hippias; Alcibiades I; Menexenus; Alcibiades II; and Eryxias. The Dialogues are a collection of philosophical texts written by the ancient Greek philosopher in the form of conversations between various characters. They cover a wide range of topics, including ethics, politics, epistemology, and metaphysics, and are considered some of the most important works in the Western philosophical tradition. The Dialogues are important for several reasons. First, they provide a detailed and nuanced exploration of many key philosophical concepts and ideas. They also demonstrate Plato's mastery of the art of dialogue, which he uses to convey his ideas in a way that is both engaging and accessible. Additionally, the Dialogues are notable for their use of the Socratic method, in which characters engage in a dialogue to explore a particular idea or question, rather than simply presenting a thesis.
