Publisher Description

Widowed Nicolas Westfall, the Duke of Stapleton, cannot prevent the upcoming debut for his youngest daughter no matter how much he wishes her eventual marriage wouldn’t leave him all alone. Convinced to host a Christmas Ball to prepare her for the season, he’s aware he’s considered a catch on the marriage mart too, but Nicolas is drawn to companion Gillian Thorpe instead.

Gillian was hired to prepare the duke’s daughter for her first season, but its not easy when the girl hasn’t the least interest in the men and the widowed father makes her knees weak when he laughs with her. Gillian respects and admires (perhaps too frequently) the Duke of Stapleton and when she’s lured into a mistletoe kiss with him, will she be able to stop at one or even want to?

A steamy regency romance.

A story that’s only positive is the banter

The author writes well, however, with the immediate use of a 9 month time skip to avoid any relationship or character building it leaves me underwhelmed. The two main characters are the only ones with even an ounce of substance. The entire cast of this book seem to be mere fluff to be used to bring the two characters together. At the end I feel as though I know little more about anyone in this book than I did at chapter two.
It is easy to read in one day when you’re bored.
Writing style 4/5
“Plot” 2/5
Character depth 1/5
Misogyny and “she’s not like other girls trope” 5/5 (at the the author is able to make the main character likeable without resorting to making misogynistic remarks comparing her to other women”.
Overall if you’re bored of reading heavy plot rimmed books with large amounts of world building then this book can provide a nice break for you.
