Despite those obstacles, it’s clear their passion hasn’t dimmed. However, the heat between them isn’t enough to melt the Duke of Ice, and this time Violet may find herself the jilted party. SENSATIONAL!!!
Nicholas Bateman, the Duke of Klive is a very bitter man after being betrayed by the only woman he’s loved when he was a younger man with no title and fortune to his name. She chose a title and wealth, and that he can never ever forgive Violet Caulfield, now the widow Lady Pendleton.
Lady Violet Pendleton has never forgot the man she lost her heart to even though she never understood why he never fought for her, even though she was forced to marry another man she half expected him to rush in and stop the wedding......fanciful dreaming.
Now they’re both widowed and attending the same house party. Thinking that she’s immune to him she tries to befriend the Duke of Ice. She never expected his hostility. Against her better judgment she pushes until the inevitable happens, they become lovers. Violet has come to the realization that she never stopped loving him if possible she loves him more. Somehow she believes that they have a chance at a future. Unfortunately for her she’s never had the chance he deserted her after a horrific accident almost killed her. All she gets from their time together is a letter telling her he’s chosen another for his wife.
What cruel fate for Violet to endure. Nick believes that to keep Violet safe from his curse he has to stay away from her, no matter how much he loves her.
He would suffer his undying love in silence loving her from a distance. But he can’t be selfish and ruin the life of another by marrying for convenience he has to take a chance at living life not waiting for death. All he needs now is to grovel at violets feet and maybe she’ll forgive him.
Darcy Burke has written another winner in my opinion, a story of second chances, redemption and forgiveness. Emotionally taut brimming with sensual heat this is a story of two people that have been tricked and deceived a life of happiness. I truly recommend this book.
