The Earth’s Core

This book is concerned with the Earth’s core-the innermost regions of the
Earth. No direct measurements can be made of any of its physical properties
and in some ways we know more about the distant stars than we do about the
deep interior of the Earth. However, the core plays a key role in many geophysical
studies-amongst other things it is believed that the Earth’s magnetic
field is a result of motions in the fluid outer core.
