Awesome book
Honestly, this is one of the best books I’ve ever read. My mom knows the writer and when I was 12 and looking for books to read, my mom ordered this and it instantly became my favourite.
First of all, this book is perfect whether you’re a Christian or non-christian, if you are a Christian, this book can help you with important arguments on things such as creation vs evolution, if you’re not, just skip the Bible stuff or read it so you understand the worldview better.
Next, the characters are amazing, I really enjoy how Ashley could have been a perfect kid with a perfect family but she still has problems that she has to figure out just like everyone else. Trent is a very interesting character and Given did an excellent job on creating him and portraying his backstory. Ethan also has a very good backstory and I like how, though he’s had a hard life, he’s still a Christian and he manages to stay calm throughout the entire book, except for maybe the part where he sends Trent flying. The other characters are equally amazing. I enjoy the parts where Shay just adds his commentary in other people’s conversations, just like I do.😁 Lisa, Drew, Chloe, and Lillian have excellent backstories and all of the eight bring something unique to the table.
The villains have very interesting motivations and the “other” characters, Fritz, Tara, Keith, etc. are also very well done
The plot twists and mysteries are incredible and every time I thought the end of the book was getting close, I would realize that I was only around halfway through.
My only problem is that the part where they are watching the screens and figuring out the whole kidnapping seemed kinda unrealistic, but then again, it’s way more real than most fiction I read.
Just so people know, the book is full of violence, even murder, shooting, threats, name calling, drinking, smoking, an attempted suicide, and references to swearing, no actual swear words, just stuff like “he swore,” all stuff I consider essential for a good book. One of the characters is a pregnant teen girl who is contemplating abortion but doesn’t after another character helps her out. But don’t worry, it’s still a good Christian book with more scripture than violence. I do not recommend the book for anyone younger than 13 or 14.
Sorry if there were any spoilers, it’s an amazing book, definitely worth eight bucks.
Try it out.
