It was a simple mixup. Except it wasn't simple at all. When a boy is named after a dragon in a book, and that dragon's name is Ruth, he can be assured of an interesting life. Except that, by the time he was a senior in high school, he was pretty sure nothing really interesting would ever happen to him.
Then his parents applied to host a foreign exchange student. They filled out the forms correctly, including what his gender was. But a simple (and understandable) mistake in processing the forms resulted in a girl being sent to live with them, instead of a boy.
She was a beautiful girl, an exotic girl, and cultural differences resulted in her not being unhappy about the mistake at all. In fact, she asked if she could stay with her new, adopted family.
And somehow she fit right in. She and Ruth became best friends.
And then she and Ruth became much, much more.
Imagine an international incident, based on two kids falling in love.
