The Find

"All that winter in 1945/6 I was happy at last. The war years were behind me. The prison, the hunger in the orphanage after I escaped the 'consignment' to Auschwitz, was no more. I was 15, back in school and had a loving home with Auntie Marga, the second. However, I had a big decision to make. Do I join my mother in England although I don't know a word of English and sacrifice going to university? In my dreams and poetry I idealised my mother, but she was a stranger to me. What should I do?"
