The Foolish Virgin

“Mary Adams, you’re a fool!” Jane’s warning draws a dimpled smile—but beneath their teasing, a thunderbolt is waiting: the man Mary calls her Fate.

In crowded New York, schoolteacher Mary Adams earns her living while dreaming of the home and baby she believes are a woman’s true happiness. Her friend Jane, an artist who prizes work and independence, urges her toward a wider life—even asking her to sit for a painter’s Madonna. Mary refuses, certain that love will find her in its own time. Yet she has never met a man she can call her equal, and Jane fears what may happen when romantic longing meets the real world. Will Mary recognize her Fate before it changes everything?
