The Giaour The Giaour

Publisher Description

Lord George Gordon Byron was a legendary English poet, as famous in his lifetime for his personality cult as for his poetry.

“The Giaour” is a poem, entered in the Eastern tales collection and first published in 1813. In this tale, the Turkish lord Hassan punishes the infidelity of his wife Leila by drowning her in a sack. In revenge, her lover, the Giaour, slays Hassan. The story’s fascination as well as its occasional confusion lies in its sudden shifts in time, place, and speaker. Many events are presented out of sequence in a series of what Byron termed "disjointed fragments".

We present you one of the most famous Baron’s literary works, which was an immediate success, confirming Byron’s importance as the most popular and influential poet of his generation. Enjoy the reading.
