Although she's uneasy about the propriety of much of what Dr. Talbot is asking her to do, there's always a sensible explanation for the necessity. And after all, Virginia needs only pass this one final hurdle before she'll begin her new life as a governess, and finally experience the world away from the watchful eye of her spinster great aunt.
