Publisher Description
The bestselling landmark account of the first emergence of the Ebola virus.
Now a mini-series drama starring Julianna Margulies, Topher Grace, Liam Cunningham, James D'Arcy, and Noah Emmerich on National Geographic.
A highly infectious, deadly virus from the central African rain forest suddenly appears in the suburbs of Washington, D.C. There is no cure. In a few days 90 percent of its victims are dead. A secret military SWAT team of soldiers and scientists is mobilized to stop the outbreak of this exotic "hot" virus. The Hot Zone tells this dramatic story, giving a hair-raising account of the appearance of rare and lethal viruses and their "crashes" into the human race. Shocking, frightening, and impossible to ignore, The Hot Zone proves that truth really is scarier than fiction.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Is there anything more terrifying than a real-world plague? In The Hot Zone, science journalist Richard Preston puts Biosafety Level 4 viruses like Marburg and Ebola under the microscope, exploring their origins and examining deadly outbreaks in places as far-flung as Kenya, Germany, and Virginia. Preston tells his gripping story through cutting-edge scientific research and personal interviews with frontline doctors and biohazard researchers; his snappy, descriptive prose reads like a globe-trotting medical thriller. Nearly a quarter century after its publication, The Hot Zone remains eye-opening, chilling, and prescient—pick it up before you watch the miniseries starring Julianna Margulies.

Gripping Tale from Beginning to End
I very much enjoyed the way the author told this tale. It properly underscores the seriousness of these deadly viruses, but also shows that there is reason to hope. Countless people work behind the scenes to understand and fight these viruses. It’s important for us to be more aware of the work they do, and support them.
I look forward to reading other books by this author, and watching the television series.
