#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • The unmissable new mystery in the Thursday Murder Club series from bestselling author Richard Osman, now streaming on Netflix
Who's got time to think about murder when there's a wedding to plan?
It’s been a quiet year for the Thursday Murder Club. Joyce is busy with table plans and first dances. Elizabeth is grieving. Ron is dealing with family troubles, and Ibrahim is still providing therapy to his favorite criminal.
But when Elizabeth meets Nick, a wedding guest asking for her help, she finds the thrill of the chase is ignited once again. And when Nick disappears without a trace, his cagey business partner becomes the gang’s next stop. It seems the duo have something valuable—something worth killing for.
Joyce’s daughter, Joanna, jumps into the fray to help the gang as they seek answers: Has someone kidnapped Nick? And what’s this uncrackable code they keep hearing about? Plunged back into action once more, can the four friends solve the puzzle and a murder in time?
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Richard Osman’s cozy Thursday Murder Club mysteries are the ultimate comfort reads, and this entry is as warm, witty, and full of surprises as ever. Life goes on at the posh retirement community Coopers Chase. There’s urgent family business for Ron to settle and a wedding for Joyce to cheerfully meddle in (her daughter’s!), while Ibrahim’s star patient has taken a wayward teen under her wing. And Elizabeth is still quietly coping with her recent loss. But when a fellow wedding guest confides that he’s in danger, the gang gets pulled into a case involving a hidden code, a dangerous villain, and, of course, another murder. We love how Osman keeps deepening the characters’ emotional and personal lives while still delivering all the pacey twists and cleverness we’ve come to expect. Ron’s bond with his grandson is especially endearing, and Joyce’s diary entries continue to sparkle with mischief. At the same time, the mystery’s high stakes remind us that age doesn’t dull courage. Funny, tender, suspenseful, and irresistibly charming, The Impossible Fortune is a joy for longtime fans and a perfect entry point for newcomers.
