A group of first-year homesteaders survive on the Great Plains of Dakota in this American western classic. It is 1883 and the new arrivals stake out their claims on the treeless prairie. They build one-room cabins and begin improvements they hope will give them rights to ownership. The themes revolve around the affect of nature on the well being of early settlers and frontier morality.
