The Mourning House

Professional mourner Inez Pike has grieved beside more coffins than she can remember. But she has never been asked to mourn a dead man alone—or spend the night inside the house where his body waits.

For one hundred dollars, Inez agrees to sit vigil over Judge Thaddeus Wren until morning. The instructions are simple: keep the lamps burning, cover every mirror, and never leave the dead man unattended.
