Publisher Description
Russian meddling, American fragmentation, and global politics collide in this action-packed, international thriller.
In The Nemesis Manifesto, New York Times bestselling author Eric Van Lustbader, "the master of the smart thriller,"* delivers an epic and harrowing adventure of the predatory forces that are threatening the very fabric of democracy and kicks off a compelling new series with a singular new hero for our time.
Evan Ryder is a lone wolf, a field agent for a black-ops arm of the DOD, who has survived unspeakable tragedy and dedicated her life to protecting her country. When her fellow agents begin to be systematically eliminated, Evan must unravel the thread that ties them all together...and before her name comes up on the kill list.
The list belongs to a mysterious cabal known only as Nemesis, a hostile entity hell-bent on tearing the United States apart. As Evan tracks them from Washington D.C. to the Caucasus Mountains, from Austria to a fortress in Germany where her own demons reside, she unearths a network of conspirators far more complex than anyone could have imagined. Can Evan uproot them before Nemesis forces bring democracy to its knees?

APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Eric Van Lustbader (The Bourne Legacy) launches a new espionage series introducing Evan Ryder, a field operative drawn into a deadly chain of assassinations targeting her fellow agents. Following the threads leads her into a labyrinth of shifting alliances, buried loyalties, and a network of actors intent on destabilizing the United States from within. The intense action stretches across Washington and Europe, with covert cells, compromised power brokers, and a conspiracy that thrives on secrecy and chaos. Lustbader leans into modern geopolitical anxieties and the psychological toll of spycraft while still delivering a fast-moving plot filled with plenty of hand-to-hand combat and sudden betrayals. The Nemesis Manifesto is a high-voltage thriller with a heroine who refuses to back down.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Fans of bestseller Lustbader's contributions to the Jason Bourne franchise (Robert Ludlum's The Bourne Initiative, etc.) will welcome this outstanding series launch. Evan Ryder, a field agent in a black ops shop, works deep within the Department of Defense. Her spymaster boss receives a list with six names of agents investigating a mysterious organization known as Nemesis. In the last 10 months, five of them have either disappeared or been badly injured. Evan and fellow agent Brenda Myers are sent to interview the one survivor, Patrick Wilson. The obviously unwell Wilson, who's been tortured, keels over and dies while talking to them, and shortly thereafter Evan and Brenda are the target of a car bombing. The novel encompasses such standard thriller elements as Russians, Nazis, betrayal, treasonous U.S. politicians, and evil masterminds, but Lustbader elevates these familiar components well above the usual thriller norm. Credible action and often lyrical prose support the complex, intelligent plot. A series of twists and an extended fight sequence at the end will leave readers amazed and pleasantly exhausted. Lustbader is at the top of his game.
