The Paternity Pact

This story took one of my favorite themes: a second chance, and combined it with a theme that I always have mixed reactions to: secret baby. What came out of this blend was a wonderful surprise. I particularly liked how realistic the emotional reactions are in this book. As a human species we’re often irrational and defensive, and that came through clearly in Grant and Harley’s behavior. Grant is analytical and controlled, whereas Harley is emotional and impulsive. Together, they aren’t just like oil and water, they’re more like fire and gasoline; absolutely incendiary. They have the potential to bring out the best in other, instead they’re usually behaving their very worst. I really enjoyed watching this pair find their way together. And now I’m kind of inspired to read more about this latest foray back to the TCC.

From the moment that Grant and Harley met at the Texas Cattleman’s Club ball the sparks flew and they spent a steamy evening together. Instead of the beginning of a relationship it became the end when he found out a personal detail about Harley that he wasn’t comfortable with, and they took their hurt feelings and went their separate ways.

Five years later Harley has returned from living overseas for two reasons. One is to secure the backing for the charity she created and the other is to introduce her son to his father. Will this be their second chance or are they destined to end in heartbreak once again?

I really enjoyed both these characters as they both had the best of intentions when it came to their son. Their hearts have always known they have belonged to each other and now they just need to accept it in their heads.
