This gripping suspense novel is loosely based on the real-life case of Yoselyn Ortega, a Manhattan nanny charged with killing two young children under her care. Leïla Slimani won France’s most prestigious literary prize for this chilling story, which explores parenting and class privilege via the interactions of a professional Parisian couple and their seemingly flawless employee: Louise, an obsessive woman with a troubled history. Slimani’s novel is seriously creepy and very well written.

Anti-climactic
Didn’t enjoy the ending of the book, started out very strong but Felt like it cut out the majority of the details.
Not suspenseful, not worth it
There was no suspense, no sense of drama. I kept expecting it to pick up and get interesting, but it never did. Just a sad story that gets sadder as it goes on, but without any climax or surprises.
Captivating
This author knows life of a mother, a nanny,a child in a street, in apartment and in countryside now and long before current time. I still wonder, how she knows all these little thoughts and emotions in my head!!!
