Fisher finally set out to publish a collection of essays related specifically to her role as Princess Leah in the blockbuster Star Wars movie franchise and a brief affair with her older and married co-star Harrison Ford during the shooting of the first film. The juxtaposition between Fisher's narration of her contemporary writing with the voice of her daughter, actress Lourd, reading diary portions written four decades earlier makes for telling contrast: Fisher, with her smoky, husky voice, sounds like a tough-as-nails seasoned survivor who doesn't take her past romances and heartaches seriously and wishes her own fans would lighten up about their assumptions and speculations. Lourd performs the emotional long-ago passages with a palpable air of youthful self-consciousness. May The Force Be With You Always. Hope
Only one chapter "behind the scenes" zzzzzzz
I was really looking forward to reading what happened behind the scenes of one of my most memorable childhood movies. The workings behind what you see on the screen has always intrigued me and I know what I would do if I could do it over.
Anyway, this book IMO is zzzzzzzzzzzz.
The only behind the scenes is a mention of an affair between Fisher & Ford. There is 100 pages of a young girls ramblings (Carrie's diary I'm assuming) of her feelings and poems. I didn't even read them fully as I found myself skimming these pages hoping for more.
After her diary entries she then proceeds to go into fans 'rants'.
There is nothing of note for behind the scenes. I was hoping for anecdotes between cast and crew, her experiences with Lucas, the workings of a movie set,etc.
I have about 50 pages left in the book but wanted to post this review in hopes of saving the next person money. If you're really interested in the 'affair' portion I'm sure someone will post that chapter online somewhere soon. If you never read it you aren't missing anything.
I do not recommend this book.
