The fifth and concluding novel in The Keystone Cycle, a five-book literary series following five Greek-diaspora cohort leads from one Kalymnos dorm to five port cities and home again.

Tia Theodorakis-Coffin grew up in Broome, where three lines run through one family: the Kalymnos divers who arrived in 1908, the Yawuru country that has held her father's mother's people across generations, and the Anglo-Australian pearl-shed lineage of her mother's side. When Tia leaves the red-earth coast of Western Australia for two years on a Greek island, she carries a question she cannot yet phrase: how do you record a line without flattening it.

At Pothia, the Drosos-house dorm holds five cohort leads. Athena in Tarpon Springs. Niko in Darwin. Lina in Sfax. Phaedon in Alexandria. Tia at the maritime heritage office, working through the ledgers one row at a time. In February of her first year, she finds an entry that turns the room cold: her great-great-grandmother Eirini, age seventeen, departed Pothia for Broome on the eighth of September 1908.

Then a sister's funeral. Then a memorial wall in Pothia, in May, with Eirini's name on it. Then the long-haul flight back to Broome to begin her Year 3 internship at the Roebuck Bay maritime heritage office, where her own great-grandmother's ledger is two rows from her elbow.

Year 4 is the wall at Carnarvon Street. Two sections. Seventy names in the first, a ninety-name extension in the second. A Yawuru-acknowledgment engraving at the head of the second section. The wall will stand across the next generations.
