Desperate, out of options, he signs up for The Running Man, “the biggest show in the country.” It’s an ultraviolent competition where the stakes could not be higher. No contestant has ever lasted longer than eight days. Can Ben Richards win this ultimate game of life and death?
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Stephen King’s classic dystopian novel set in a not-too-distant future is the definition of an unputdownable listen. In this vision of America, a struggling dad like Ben—who can’t afford treatment for his sick daughter—has no options. Well, except for one: survive one of the brutal reality shows broadcast for the savage entertainment of the masses. Originally published under his pen name Richard Bachman, King came up with this biting premise decades before Squid Game or The Hunger Games, and the story still absolutely zings with piercing wit and blisteringly prescient imagination.
Customer Reviews
A unique sci-if you haven’t seen on screen
A bloody Sci-fi story, set in a 2025 imagined through the lens of it’s 1982 publishing date. The world in which the story is told is beautifully developed, wholly unique, and feels lived-in. Wonder how that ending has aged though.
