The Sabbath The Sabbath

Publisher Description

Abraham Joshua Heschel's "The Sabbath" is a seminal work that explores the spiritual and existential dimensions of the Jewish Sabbath. Written with eloquence and depth, Heschel delves into the profound significance of the Sabbath as a sacred day of rest, reflection, and communion with the divine. Drawing from Jewish tradition and philosophy, he articulates the idea that the Sabbath is not merely a cessation of work but a sanctuary in time, a unique opportunity for individuals to experience a sense of holiness and connection to God. Heschel's rich prose and insightful analysis invite readers to contemplate the transformative power of observing the Sabbath, transcending religious boundaries to offer a universal appreciation for the sanctity of time and the pursuit of a more meaningful existence. "The Sabbath" stands as a timeless exploration of the spiritual essence inherent in this ancient tradition.

Profoundly moving, deeply meaning

Initially, more heady than most of what I read but once I got comfortable with the writing words and phrases kept jumping off the pages.

Profound, deep, sanctifying , this book has profoundly changed my understanding of sabbath.

It has also exponentially increased my desire to be more open to God’s presence on the sabbath so that He can call me to Himself more deeply throughout the week
