Jarvis Thwainston has a pointless job, obnoxious colleagues, and the most annoying housemate ever.

Only one thing gets Jarvis through the day. At every opportunity, he disappears into daydreams, imagining himself as Harland Buckthorpe, the dashing hero of his favourite series of books. As Harland, he can engage in exciting adventures and win the heart of his true love.

But Jarvis’s luck seems to change when he meets Juliette, a delightful young woman whose name is remarkably similar to Harland’s paramour, Giulietta. Jarvis takes this as a sign, becoming convinced he can win Juliette’s heart by enthralling her with stories of his fantasy adventures.

The more he attempts to woo the fair Juliette, the more Jarvis finds his lives, both real and fantastical, turning upside down as the path to love leads him in directions he could never have imagined.

The Shield of Delos is a funny and joy-filled tale that spans multiple genres, including comedy, fantasy, romance, adventure and satire, as it tells a story of the quest for true love by a socially awkward man with a very active imagination.
