The lush tea gardens in Assam during the early twentieth century were challenging due to their wetlands, tropical and subtropical climates, and sub-temperate climates, which abound with wildlife. An Irish lad, Martin O’Brien, seems to revel in the extremely harsh conditions. His dreams of a career with the thrill of wild game echoed in his soul. His tryst with love epitomized his life – rudely shaken and destroyed by a maniacal and fanatical mind ever in his footsteps. It is the story of a typical tea planter spanning World War 2 and culminating beyond the period when India achieved its independence and well into the statehood of Meghalaya in 1972.
