Finally, after over 30 years of hagiographies, comes a book that sets the record straight and tells us the truth about Pierre Elliott Trudeau.

In this unprecedented and meticulously researched sweep of the record, Globe and Mail bestselling author Bob Plamondon challenges the conventional wisdom that Trudeau was a great prime minister. With new revelations, fresh insights, and in-depth analysis, Plamondon reveals that the man did not measure up to the myth.

While no one disputes Trudeau's intelligence, toughness, charisma, and the flashes of glamour he brought Canada, in the end the pirouettes were not worth the price.

This book reminds me of a kid who never got his way and thus tries to write poorly about his mother's actions. The author tries to portray Trudeau in a negative way, but ends up showing his pure negative bias towards the man. In context he mentions the antics of Flaherty, and discussing Margaret Thatcher, but does not note how People in Britain hated the Iron Lady so much as proven by the outbursts/protests during the lady's funeral and wake. The author to does not mention the world stage at the time of Trudeau's reign other than to put Trudeau down. While building up Reagan , he does not mention the Iran/contra affair or the playing down of the conditions in the sates, re: health care. The author as well, negates the idea of helping the poor, while not crediting Trudeau trying to help other provinces to stand up to Ontario. If anyone were to ask me about my perceptions about this book, I would write "garbage" and not recommend it as an academic adventure but the rant of an misguided biased author. The authors, as well, fails to say that Trudeau did not boot lick the Americans just to put him in their good graces. It appears that if the author was the Prime Minister that this is what he would do. He does , though mention that despite the view Trudeau's govt did invests in the tar sands of Alberta. The Harper govt never acknowledges this fact. Finally with regards to the military, like his view for all people, Trudeau tried to make every branch of the Armed Forces equal. Up to Trudeau's time the airforce was looked upon as being superior and called the good old flyboys, while the navy were the underdogs, having no brains at all. The army was only good on their feet and their bellies. Of course The author doesn't mention this fact. He appears to agree with bringing back inequality among the forces like Harper did. Oh those reference sources, but like the Bible, lines may be taken out of context and not thus of academic substance.

A masterpiece of conservative propaganda. This book artfully describes Trudeau's obnoxious concern for the least fortunate in our society, his intransigent insistence on a fair deal for average Canadians, and his incomprehensible forestalling of the glorious capitalist revolution that has brought so much to so few since his departure from office.
