THE TWO YOUs

Scientific theories have led us to amazing discoveries and inventions. Yet we have not been able to answer basic questions such as: “What is the Self?” What specifically governs and triggers the creation of our thoughts? How do we decide right from wrong, good from awful? What was the mutation that enabled Homo sapiens to mentally evolve beyond that of all other species? Why does every human and animal have a unique personality and what is the uniqueness based on? Why do we spend a third of our lives asleep and what triggers a dream? Why are we the only species that has so many conflicts?

There are many scientific assumptions about the human mind that fail the test of “based on what.” Example: The explanations for short and long-term memories are helpful, but they are assumptions because we do not know what determines a memory’s longevity or how is it maintained?

The study of the mind has not been a profitable concern, other than researched methodologies for influencing our beliefs and purchasing habits. Scientific discoveries and religions have not decreased the amount of conflict between humans. To understand ourselves and others, we have to understand our mental processes and how we as a species mentally evolved. How did we learn to ask why and how did we learn to lie?

We do not comprehend the moment to moment “influential effects” of our survival instincts. Human instinct is the basis for our innate will to survive. DNA based instincts and our memories are the basis for the various methodologies we employ to survive; survive physically and to survive mentally in today’s world.

Our beliefs, as to who we are and how we perceive the world are based on word associative memories. Our language-based memories provide us with a word referenced level of understanding, but do not give us the ability to comprehend the essence of many things. Example: Through language we can neither corral nor define the essence of chocolate, or the affection parents have for their children.

This book introduces new theories to explain how our minds evolved. How they function and the influences that determine the thoughts we create. The basis for understanding, comprehending and the human behaviors that have eluded scientific explanations.
