Short Story

"I really liked this story from screenwriter Patrice Williams. "The Unfinished" centers on a man brought back from the dead for 72 hours in order to identify his killer. It's written in a real conversational style, and builds up to a fun, surprising conclusion. I've already said too much."

Derek Haas, writer of films 3:10 to Yuma, Wanted, 2 Fast 2 Furious; co-creator of Chicago Fire and Chicago PD

In a future where the Unfinished (murdered) are brought back to life for only 72 hours to testify against their killers before being "put down" for eternity... an Unfinished is resurrected to what he believes is his one chance to point the finger at his accused killer.

He remembers the final details of his life; his boring job as a mattress salesman, the Dame he had high hopes for and the Mug who took his life.

Once brought back from the dead and taken to court, this Unfinished could never have imagined what was awaiting him.

Set in a world that is our future, giving homage to 1940's detective noir stories, "The Unfinished" serves up a twist ending that will leave you wanting to follow his story to the end.

    Shawn Halayka ,

    Interesting idea, intense pace.

A short story with an intensely rapid pace, narrated by a rapid-fire fast-talking salesman. The speed eventually mixes with what amounts to a brick wall, and you're left feeling quite thoroughly stunned in the end. The effect feels like a giant slap across the face, and good.

    Nice job!

    I want More

This is a really fast paced, short story. It takes place in the distance future, where people are brought back to life for 72 hours (thanks to science break-throughs) to take the stand to point out who murdered them. One man is the narrator of this story. He reflects on the last days of his life. A life of a mattress sales man and the new women in his life. He talks about the way he was killed and how the process of coming back to life looked like when he was alive. When he is brought back awake to take to the stand to point out who murdered him, he is in for a big shock.

This story left me saying, “ooooo… I want more!” and “This was a great story”. Even though this story was only 17 pages long I felt like I had started a really good book. I was taken into the story and character. I also wanted to know more about this future.

    It’s worth reading.
