When Bruce Cordell was inveigled into an innocent lunch with the ravishing Georgina Watts, he was making an unconscious choice about his own future – would it lie in a return to the quiet of his family life or a confidential assignment in the strife torn Mandate of Palestine?

Alone back in England, Cordell receives a request from a man he has never heard of before asking for his help in finding Georgina. Cordell quickly finds himself drawn into an unlikely web as he tries to solve the mystery of what has happened to this passionate young woman. He sets out to find her with the persistence of a pit-terrier and in doing so he finds a purpose: retracing the strange twisting route that led to Georgina’s disappearance until Cordell he finds himself at the heart of a dangerous puzzle whose pieces are scattered around terror stricken Palestine. One thing becomes certain, that Cordell will need all his resourcefulness and quickness of thought to see him through the perils of the last days of British Mandated Palestine.
