Publisher Description

The Vein Between Worlds is a cinematic dark fantasy thriller set between the limestone villages of 1980s Derbyshire and a dying parallel world called Branook — a world where memory lives in blood, ancient wars still breathe beneath the soil, and something long buried has begun listening again.

When fifteen-year-olds Ben and Gregory flee a pair of local bullies across the fields outside Dove Holes, they discover a cave that should not exist. Inside, reality bends. The dark deepens. The world changes shape around them. And when the ground finally gives way beneath their feet, they fall into Branook — a wounded realm beneath lilac skies and twin moons, haunted by the remnants of a broken pact between worlds.

There they meet Drut: an ancient warrior of the Crachow, a race of towering badger-like beings driven nearly to extinction after a catastrophic war against a resurrected king named Diarmuid. But Branook is not simply another world. It is connected to Earth through the Vein — an immense living force threading between realities, carrying memory, consciousness, and corruption alike.

And Gregory has accidentally opened himself to it.

After consuming the Radising root — a rare growth formed directly from the Vein itself — Gregory begins to change. Wounds heal instantly. Strange instincts emerge. Forgotten languages surface in his mouth unbidden. He starts seeing things that are not there… and things that are. The Vein is reading him back. Every time he uses his growing second sight, the dead king feels him more clearly.

Meanwhile Ben — stubborn, ordinary, fiercely loyal Ben — realizes something far worse than being trapped in another world: he may be the only thing standing between Gregory and whatever is trying to wear his face from the inside.

What begins as a desperate attempt to survive becomes a race against a slow-moving catastrophe stretching across two worlds. Villages begin to change. The Vein widens. Ancient soldiers walk again. And somewhere beyond the forests of Branook, Diarmuid waits with the patience of something that no longer fears time.

At its heart, The Vein Between Worlds is not just a fantasy novel. It is a story about friendship under impossible pressure — about the terror of watching someone you love become unreachable one small piece at a time. Combining grounded British realism with psychological horror, mythic fantasy, and deeply human emotional stakes, it evokes the atmosphere of:

•Stranger Things
•The Lord of the Rings
•Dark
•The Ocean at the End of the Lane
•Annihilation

while remaining wholly its own: intimate, unsettling, cinematic, and emotionally devastating.

It is a story about boys who run from a fight and accidentally step into the end of a world.
