The Vershek Deception: Scheherazade

When the Pirate Brotherhood destroys his chartered starships, Confederacy contingency response operator Sulieman MacGregor recruits a low-tech Earth salvage crew. While travelling 1,500 light years home, they insist on surfing in particlespace, challenging his patience.

His enemies have designs on the Confederacy status quo. An interstellar conglomerate, Vershek Consolidated, plots an elaborate deception with one goal in mind: raise prices and raise profits. Billions will die, but profits will rise.
