Fascinating and riveting
THE WOMAN LEFT BEHIND is the fourth instalment in Kristen Ashley’s contemporary, adult MISTED PINES romantic suspense series focusing on the people and small town of MISTED PINES. This is Sheriff and widower Harry Moran, and property manager/ editor Lillian Rainier’s story line. THE WOMAN LEFT BEHIND can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.
Told from first person perspective (Lillian) and third person (Harry) THE WOMAN LEFT BEHIND follows in the wake of a sixteen year old missing persons case. At nineteen years of age, Lillian Rainier was left alone, when her parents Sonny and Avery Rainier disappeared without a trace. Fast forward to present day, Sheriff Harry Moran’s ongoing audit of former Sheriff Leland Dern, uncovers numerous questionable cases including the missing persons case for Lillian’s parents. From the outset, Harry begins to suspect all is not as it appears to be, and with the help of his team, Harry will discover a ghost from the past is quickly taking down the people involved.
The world building follows the building romance and relationship between Harry and Lillian, as well as the interconnected characters and cases from years before including the familiarity and similarities of the people coming forward, and the revelations of betrayal and deception.
The relationship between Harry and Lillian begins with the reopening of the investigation into the disappearance of Lillian’s parents.Harry is a widower who struggles to move on from the past, and Lillian has been burned by a man who refuses to let go. Lillian has lusted after our story line her for as long as she can remember but Harry continues to battle between head and heart for what he lost, and believes will never be found. The $ex scenes are passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
The secondary and supporting characters including the return of Cade and Delphine (The Girl in the Mist 1), Rus Lazarus (The Girl in the Woods) , twins/private investigators Jesse and Jace Bohannan, Sheriff Leland Dern. We are introduced to Lillian’s neighbors Ronette and George, and their adult children Shane and Sherise. Jenna and Trey, as well as a large assortment of townies, gossips and Misted Pines’ long list of guilty parties.
THE WOMAN LEFT BEHIND is a story of secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, power and control, murder and madness, family and relationships, friendships and love. The character driven premise is fascinating and riveting; the romance is seductive; the characters are strong-willed, animated, tenacious and charismatic; the romance is emotional and intense.
