APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
The setup of this entertaining novel tells you immediately that drama will unfold: Set in Toronto in the ’80s, the story revolves around the leader of an experimental theatre company who is embroiled in a love triangle with two other members of the troupe. Director Marlin Lewis’ techniques resemble those of a cult, emphasizing movement-based exercises and weird self-help vibes. Marlin’s romantic entanglements with lead actress Amanda and stage manager Rebecca only deepen his psychological grip on them. Maria Meindl—herself a movement teacher in the Feldenkrais Method—really gets to the heart of the way power can be abused. She portrays the theatre world in a borderline satirical way that’s fun and unsettling.
