KARACHI -- Justice Rana Baghwan Das former Judge of Supreme Court of Pakistan was honoured by the Pakistan Society for Study of Liver Diseases by inviting him to be the chief guest at their fifth annual meeting held at Karachi from December 16-18th 2011. Liver Transplant- an Asia Pacific Perspective was the theme of the conference which was largely attended by gastroenterologists and other physicians interested in liver diseases besides a few invited guest speakers from overseas. Speaking at the occasion Justice Rana Baghwan Das said that my lesson for the Youth was that there is no short cut to success and glory. One must work hard with full zeal and let God Almighty decide your place in history. God does justice and we work as his agents. We work without fear or favour. He urged all sections of the society to support the Judiciary for safeguarding the rights of every one and fair play.Justice Rana Baghwan Das further stated that he was the first Hindu and one of the three non-Muslims who had the privilege of serving as Chief Justice of Supreme Court of Pakistan. I owe my success to the state of Pakistan which gave me this honour. I have served the Judiciary for over four decades and rose to the highest position because of mercy of Allah and prayers of my parents. He also recalled that before partition Hindu community in Sindh played an important role in trade, education, industry, healthcare, finance and charitable fields. That is how we learnt peaceful co-existence, tolerance and respect for all.
