A boisterous, attractive Lord and a Plain Jane
A boisterous, scarred lord meets plain Jane. Lord Vale is attractive and boisterous; but has been left twice at the altar.
Melisande is the plain Jane- a smart, reserved woman with no suitors knocking down her doors. Melisande has loved Lord Vale for the last six years, and when he is left behind at the altar by his fiancé, she has a proposition for him. To get married to her instead.
The build up is definitely a bit slow at first and I was nearly on the verge of giving up and moving onto some other story. Fortunately, I held out and the story got so much more fun later. The funny, quit witted banter between Melisande and Lord Vale, the simpering sexual tension, the depth of character of the protagonists etc. make for a good read. There would be a definite lull at times, but then the story would pick right back up.
So far I have read two Elizabeth Hoyt books and what stands out for me are her characters. The Duke of Sin and Lord Vale are such well written, engaging characters and the smart banter in her stories always brings a smile to my face. I am planning to read more of her books; she is definitely a stand-out author of the historical romance genre.
