Elijah Morgan’s comfortable life is destroyed when his wife and son are killed in an apparent Sinn Féin/IRA attack upon the Labour Party Conference, the party of government. Unable to convince either the police or the government of their innocence, Sinn Féin rely upon a past friendship between Elijah Morgan and Tony Flynn to recruit Elijah as a clean outsider. His task: to find the real perpetrators of the attack and who Sinn Féin’s traitor is. Elijah agrees – it is his only means of securing justice for his murdered family.

Although the correct code words had been used, D. I. John Rhys is not convinced Sinn Féin/IRA is responsible for the attack. Why would they destroy the Good Friday Agreement; they had too much to lose? Learning of Elijah’s connection to Tony Flynn, Rhys exploits the opportunity it offers to discover the truth. He persuades Elijah to be the mouse in a deadly game of cat-and-mouse; little thinking his strategem would take him across two continents and last a dozen years.
