“God has a reason for allowing things to happen. We may never understand his wisdom but we simply have to trust his will.”
These are the words you often hear when you have lost a loved one. Somehow, these words are expected to erase all the pain and help you get over or fill the void that has insidiously formed within you. These words are what one would call politically correct but unfortunately, no one wishes to hear them when going through a loss especially, when its a loss of a child.
Tumaini is a poetry anthology that will evoke different emotions for different people. It tells a story of a broken man as he deals with his loss and attempts to heal. The anthology is a memoir of a specific stage in Jade’s life. Furthermore, it touches on his relationship with the mother of his son, letting go and finding faith. As a dedication to his son, it is written in a way that both adults and children can understand.
Although, written for and to his son, the poems were written to be relatable. The aim was to encourage healing. Healing from any form of loss; a break up, the death of a loved one or the death of one self. Healing is the focus, healing at one’s own pace.
This anthology will make you feel uncomfortable, it will dig up pieces from your past that you haven’t dealt with and help you find the words you struggled to utter. It won't be easy nor pretty but you will pull through.
I am honoured and grateful to write this foreword, not only because I have known Jade for years but because I know how much this project means to him and how much it took for him to be this raw and real with his emotions. This is a personal project, one that will help many in their journeys
