Everything in Milo’s world has changed: his dad killed in a car crash, his mom missing and the cops trying to lock him up with Social Services. Milo escapes to the scene of the wreck, searching for clues in the seediest part of town. He falls in with a street kid, Sophie, and together they stumble upon a subterranean rattletrap kingdom, home of the homeless, in the labyrinth of pipes and tunnels beneath the city. It’s ruled by a self-appointed king, a dark genius with a hazy past. 


Milo’s mom is there but she doesn’t know him, her mind wiped clean in the accident. So it’s a secret rescue mission until he can find a way to jumpstart her memory and take her back to their world above. But this ragtag underground city works its magic on them both, and they are held by the powerful pull of the King.
