Personnel and Departmental Issues Prof D.P. Smits and Dr B. Cunow remain as the only full-time staff members in the Dept of Mathematical Sciences at Unisa responsible for the Astronomy programme. Ms A. de Witt is registered for a PhD on shock-excited masers in Herbig-Haro objects under the supervision of Smits. She is an SKA bursary holder and had a Unisa student assistantship. She assisted with marking of first year scripts in Astronomy and Maths and translated some documents into Afrikaans for the department. Mr E. van Graan registered for an MSc on eclipsing binary stars under the supervision of Smits and Ms P. Skelton was registered for the second part of her Hons degree.
