Publisher Description
The first victim was a local PI of suspect reputation who’d been gunned down near the beach at Santa Teresa. The other body was found on the beach six weeks later—a homeless man with Kinsey Millhone’s name and number written on a slip of paper in his pants pocket.
Two seemingly unrelated deaths, one a murder, the other apparently of natural causes.
But as Kinsey digs deeper into the mystery of the John Doe, some very strange linkages begin to emerge. Not just between the two victims, but also to Kinsey’s past. And before long Kinsey, through no fault of her own, is thoroughly compromised…

A great read!
Another consistently, witty and entertaining read! Looking forward to the next one!

This is one of the best books Sue Grafton has written in a long time. It isn't often I have tears in my eyes after reading a "detective" novel, but I did with this novel.
Can't wait for the next installment.

This was a very disappointing read. It was very long on discriptive passages, very short on a build up of suspense, not at all like most Kinsey Millhone stories that have kept me turning the pages to see what happens next. Even the venture into medical malpractice was not fully developed enough to really grab my attention. I'm was so looking forward to this latest Kinsey tale.
