Publisher Description

The Spider Woman, an ancient deity of the Nemo Indians of Mexico threatens to intrude on the Twenty-First Century after the chief artifact of her cult, a tapestry of supposedly transcendent prophecy called the Web of Time, is discovered in a pyramid by the dashing playboy Hajji Vajra. With the web serving as their occasional mutual focus, an omniscient government, an omnipotent corporation, a sycophantic media, a greedy fashion industry, a hyperactive psychiatric establishment, asexual aliens, a time traveling scientist, and a pair Nemo shamans are all caught up in antagonistic (albeit well intentioned) attempts to variously exploit, control, save or destroy the planet.

We meet the imperious Madame Suzette, one time Brit genetically modified into a French fashion celebrity bent on revealing the style secrets of the mutated multiple personalities called “splitters”, one of whom is the beautiful Morgan Tulpa (who unbeknownst to herself is the reincarnation of the Spider Woman). Meanwhile the fashion show of the season is infiltrated by the Nonx, quasi-aliens who are in fact genetically altered beings from earth’s future and who are themselves pursued by government agents including the fiercely patriotic Dirk Snee (whose personality is subsequently overwhelmed by his cover personality the gay designer Keenan Sharp) and the sociopathic Dinergy twins, Reggie and Yleda, who secretly possess the disturbing ability to exchange habitation of each other’s bodies.

Shaman’s apprentice Jaho Hogan contacts Hajji after discovering the noted bon vivant is the unwitting victim of a time loop no doubt inflicted upon him by his nemesis Omar, civil servant of the supernatural and latter day Charon. This leads to a drug induced tour of the astral plane guided by Jaho’s mentor Om in search of a cure for the proliferating time anomalies that menace the terrestrial world.

Meanwhile the renowned news interrogator Geana Bop attempts to uncover the Spider Woman in order to create a corporate religious icon to rival the popularity of Ronald MacDonald, even as state psychiatrist Ana Sanchez is abducted by mad Twentieth Century time traveler Clive Crushup in his desperate attempt to return to his own time.

When the mysteriously mundane Director of the unilateral spy agency H.U.G. orders Dirk Snee killed, the attempt forces the fragile Snee over a mental precipice and into the arms of the scheming Suzette. The Director is then assassinated, an act that launches the government’s full fledged anti-terrorist publicity campaign against the alleged aliens, despite a covert treaty with the Nonx to divide the spoils gained from exploiting a society dominated with fear.
