Edwards' daughter Jeannette Edwards Rattray with a new Foreword, this is a well-researched account on American shore-whaling, with special focus on the small-boat whaling carried on off the eastern end of Long Island from 1640 to 1918—the first and last whaling of this sort done anywhere in America.
