Dawn Robinson was ready. Ready to the leave the Gurlz and to marry her Alex. All she needed to do was to find somebody to take her place with Boyz2Gurlz, a top-notch troupe of performing lady boys. A troupe that Dawn had joined as Darwin Robinson almost three years previously.
Now it was her time. She wanted to have the operation to make her a real woman and then settle down with her wonderful friend and lover. But the troupe had two rules. To be a girl you had to leave the Gurlz. And to leave the Gurlz you had to find a Gurl.

And after a shockingly unpleasant introduction to the world of the Gurlz, Sully is transported to their home where, now called Sally, he is initiated into their deeply feminised culture and is slowly trained and guided into being a Gurl fitting enough to be a star of the troupe.

However, all is not well with Sally. Scarred by a lifetime of denunciation and ridicule from an abhorrent father, she struggles to accept what is happening to her. Her deeply ingrained guilt and her desire to be a Gurl battle for control as she faces an inner fight to be the woman she feels herself to be.
And all the while, at the forefront of her life, lie not only a caring and understanding brother and a downtrodden mother but also a violent and drunken father who threatens to destroy everything, both for Sally and for Dawn.
