Γένεσιν θεῶν ἀείδω — Mythos is stunningly brilliant

Stephen Fry’s Mythos is a luminous, generous, and irresistibly charming retelling of the Greek creation myths — a book that reveals Fry at his most brilliant and most joyful.
He approaches the ancient stories with a perfect blend of wit, warmth, and intellectual clarity, transforming the vast, tangled genealogy of gods and primordial forces into something wonderfully readable and deeply human.

Fry’s narrative voice sparkles. He is playful without ever being flippant, scholarly without ever becoming dry. His humour lands with effortless grace, and his psychological insight gives even the most distant deities a vivid emotional presence. Every god, titan, and cosmic accident feels alive, textured, and strangely relatable.

What makes Mythos so special is Fry’s ability to honour the grandeur of the original myths while making them accessible to modern readers. He never dilutes their power — instead, he illuminates their beauty, their strangeness, and their enduring relevance. The result is a book that feels both ancient and fresh, comforting and exhilarating.

For anyone who loves mythology, storytelling, or Fry’s unmistakable voice, Mythos is a treasure. It invites you to wander through the dawn of the world with a guide who understands both the majesty and the mischief of the Greek imagination.

A radiant, witty, and utterly delightful masterpiece — crafted by one of the most exceptional living minds. less

chaotic fragmentation

5 stars for the story and narration but it would be a much better experience if each track contained an entire chapter or if at the very least there was a table of contents - right now the chapters are randomly spread over several tracks, which makes it impossible to have an overview and relisten to certain stories
