Charles Brockden Brown (Jan 17, 1771 – Feb 22, 1810) was an American novelist, historian, and editor. Brown wrote in variety of genres, from essays to poetry, and exceptionally successful as writer. He is considered to be one of the major figures in classic American literature. Although Brown's works did not achieve success instantly, they were republished throughout the era of romantism and developed a reputation as a "writer's writer."
