Brown University was the center of a mid-1980s prostitution scandal. University administrators at the elite Ivy League school had contacted Providence Police authorities by November 1985. Specifically, they reported attempts to coerce female students at Brown into prostitution. Then in March 1986 arrests two Brown seniors and a Providence businessman were arrested. Taken into custody on March 6th, those arrested had their case handed over to grand jury. The prostitution case went to trial in spring 1987.
