Erewhon Erewhon

Beschreibung des Verlags

Samuel Butler's Erewhon, or Over the Range (1872), published anonymously, takes place in an imaginary land where physical illness is considered an offence but lack of morality and criminality are patronized; where machinery is forbidden and students are made to learn senseless languages. Butler used this utopian world to satirize Victorian Society and its hallowed institutions, such as the family and the church.
