Beschreibung des Verlags

In this investigation a finite element computer program was developed that analyzes newtonian and non-newtonian fluid flow. The fluid is assumed to be incompressible, steady-state, and plane flow. The analysis is based on the stream function, and the x and y velocity vectors as the three unknowns on each of the three nodes on triangular elements. The output of the finite element program solves for the unknowns and also the shear strain rate, normal strain rate difference, shear stress, and normal stress difference. Results indicate that the program was accurate for predicting polymer flow of HDPE at 200 °C through different polymer die geometries. One run simulation was also made with a coextrusion glass die under construction at Ohio University. The results were all graphically displayed using Intergraph 68000 workstations and software on a VAX/751 computer. Advisors/Committee Members: Collier, John R.
