We chose to follow our calling, our dream... to be part of the world of aviation. We have made a decision to adopt the lifestyle that this industry offers us. From the basic stages of training in our chosen specialty, we have been bombarded with countless technical, aerodynamic, regulatory, linguistic, and other concepts. But let's ask ourselves: How many hours have we spent studying and learning about safety? Difficult to answer, isn't it?
It is true that professional judgment is formed over years of training and experience; however, that judgment must also be supported by solid conceptual pillars of safety. That is what enables each of us to improve our decision-making and our actions on a daily basis; in short, to promote safer operations.
We understand that operational safety is a value that must be instilled from the very foundations of professional aeronautical training. That is why this new volume in the HDIW collection is entirely dedicated to conveying the key basic concepts that all aeronautical professionals should use throughout their careers. These concepts are not only applicable to pilots; safety is a value that is forged by each member of the aviation system, regardless of their role or activity within it.
With the aim of approaching each of the topics in a more enjoyable and educational way, we have created a text with a large number of examples, real cases, and simple practical activities, where the reader can experiment with the theoretical concepts and generate different possible responses... simple exercises, but ones that put into practice the reasoning structure that we must apply when we think of aeronautical activity as synonymous with effective and safe operations.
