During his lunch break, Anthony looked up Evershine. As he predicted, he could not find anything about the kingdom of Evershine. He wondered what Evershine was like. Was it like a kingdom from a Disney movie or was it more like an actual medieval kingdom filled with starving peasants, hangings, and the bubonic plague? For Lisassa's sake, he hoped Evershine was like the former; he hated the idea of her having to live in such harsh conditions.

He cursed himself for telling her that he was an accountant when she had asked him if he was her prince. He should have just said yes. Sure, it would have been lying, but he was already lying to her, telling her that he would help her find her prince and find a way back to Evershine. There wasn't a chance in hell he was letting go of her, especially if Evershine was actually a cesspool of bubonic plague and other medieval diseases.

For the past few years, Anthony hadn't been unhappy. His job was fine, and his life was fine. But it was just fine. It wasn't amazing. But with Lisassa, he felt like there was the potential for his life to be amazing. She sparked something in him, and it was more than mere lust. Much more.

For the first time in months, Anthony left his desk when the clock struck five. He didn't stay late to work overtime or suck up to his boss. Instead, he ran to his car, thinking of Lisassa. She hadn't called him once. He hoped that she was okay, that some psycho hadn't broken into his house and kidnapped her. Yeah, he lived in a safe neighborhood, but bad s**t could happen anywhere. His pulse raced as he disregarded the speed limit. He only relaxed when he found Lisassa in the kitchen. Then he raised his eyebrows. Were those chipmunks dancing around the hem of her dress?

She flashed him a smile that left him with a desperate ache to place his lips on hers. "Hello, Anthony," she said. "Are you hungry?"

His stomach growled as he smelled what she was cooking. Udon noodle soup and takoyaki. His favorites. "You didn't have to cook. I could've ordered dinner."

"I had to repay you for your delicious turkey sandwich."

He held back laughter. As if a lame turkey sandwich could compare to fucking homemade udon noodle soup. Then he wrinkled his brow. "Where did you get ingredients?" The only things in his fridge had been turkey, bread, apples, and Mountain Dew.

"My friends got the ingredients for me," she said. "They also told me what your favorite foods were."

He blinked. "Are you talking about the chipmunks?"

"Yes." She nodded at the creatures around her feet. "Acorn, Leaf, and Twig, say hello to Anthony."

The animals chirped. He supposed that was chipmunk for "Greetings, human."
