LYNCHBURG

Lynchburg College created an innovative program in 2014 to help future nurses master the use of technology as an educational tool and a health care application. Apple technology was a key part of this program. Nursing students were given iPad devices to use in the classroom, personal study, and clinical settings. Professors integrated iPad and other Apple technology into teaching and assignments as well.


This technology transformed the educational experience. Since adopting iON Nursing, the University has seen an increase in pass rates on nursing board exams, improved student-patient interactions, and a decrease in paper use. This book describes iON Nursing, the best practices practiced by the Lynchburg College Department of Nursing, and the results of the program. It can serve as a guide for other schools contemplating how to apply Apple technology to enhance their educational experience.


Since 1903, Lynchburg College has educated thousands of students in the liberal arts and the professions. We offer about 40 majors, more than 50 minors, 16 master’s degree programs, and three doctorates. In 2018, we will adopt the name University of Lynchburg, reflecting the breadth, depth, and quality of our academic programs.
