"Influenza and the Origins of the Phillips Collection, Washington, DC" by David M. Morens appears in the January 2006 issue of Emerging Infectious Diseases, a publication of the National Center for Infectious Diseases and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (available online at http://www.cdc.ncidod/ EID/vol12no01/05-1443.htm). The Phillips Collection of art (located in the family home at 21st and Q Streets in Washington) was founded by Duncan Clinch Phillips Jr. to honor his father and his brother, James. Duncan Clinch Phillips Sr. died shortly before his son James died of influenza during the 1918 epidemic. Morens observes: The Beat Generation's "Night of the Wolfeans and Non-Wolfeans" was retold in I Celebrate Myself: The Somewhat Private Life of Allen Ginsberg (New York: Viking, 2006). Bill Morgan offers his description of the in/famous evening with Jack Kerouac, Hal Chase, William Burroughs, and Ginsberg:
